Monday, 8 hostages survived a 10 hours hijacking of a tour bus in the Philippines capital, and at least 2 hostages were killed, according to local police. 15 hostages were on the bus as police stormed it Monday. 25 people were on the bus when the gunman boarded it.
Former police officer Rolando Mendoza is believed to have been holding the hostages, and he died Monday morning from a gunshot to the head. Police said that he fired a machine gun at the hostages who remained on the bus and killed them all, before he was killed.
9 hostages, most of who were tourists were released earlier and included: a mother with her three children, a man with diabetes, and two photographers, according to CNN.
Mendoza was demanded his job back through a note on the windshield of the bus, and was wearing a uniform. Mendoza's brother was arrested because he allegedly help his brother and was "guilty of conspiring with his brother."
25 people, 22 being foreigners were on the tourist bus when Mendoza boarded it with a gun in his hand, according to Manila District Police Chief Rodolfo Magtibay.
