2010 Philadelphia Eagles draft class

The Philadelphia Eagles worked hard on draft day and completed six draft day weekend trades to acquire 12 picks. The emphasis of these picks was to improve their pass rush, and pick up a number of talented youngsters to plug into their defense.

2010 NFL Draft review: Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles were very aggressive on draft day, they moved around for each of their first four selections, and ended up with 13 selections over the seven rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft. In teh first round they felt the need to move up 11 spots and get DE Brandon Graham. They were in love with this player, and to be perfectly honest he was my favorite DE prospect in this draft. They will pair him with Trent Cole, and both are the same kind of player, a tad undersized, but with a high motor and they both have a knack for getting after opposing QB’s.

Draft Day decision makers: Philadelphia Eagles

While Head Coach Andy Reid has the final say on personnel issues, it seems that the Eagles, as an organization have pulled some of that responsibility back from him. New General Manger Howie Roseman seems to have a lot more say than his predecessor did. While the two work closely together it seems Reid has had to give up some of his power to keep his job. College Scouting Director, Ryan Grigson, always insures that this team is very prepared on draft day, and as an organization they rarely make a mistake in the first round. These three seem to work well together, and can usually come to a consensus on who is the best player available. That is the strategy they generally invoke in their war room.

What should the Philadelphia Eagles do with their first round draft pick?

The Philadelphia eagles are going to have a big decision on their hands. With the 24th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft they will have the opportunity to address their biggest need at Safety, but they may have to take a hard look at a guy who a lot of people are down on.

What are the Philadelphia Eagles team needs in 2010?

The Philadelphia Eagles feel like a team in transition. They window of opportunity to win with QB Donovan McNabb has closed, and this team will move on with young QB Kevin Kolb. While that is a big change, it does not necessarily affect what the team needs to win. They may need to pick up another back up QB type, but essentially their needs remain the same.

2009 NFL draft one year later: Philadelphia Eagles

This is how elite organizations remain elite. They score on their first two draft picks, and then find solid role players in the later rounds that can step in and help the team. It is what we expect from the finer organizations out there, and over the last decade that is exactly what the Philadelphia Eagles have been. One year ago I gave the Eagles high marks for adding new offensive weapons to the mix, and now year later I am still very high on this draft class.

Should Andy Reid be worried?

Over the last two or so seasons it seems that the Philadelphia Eagles have had a very out with old and in with the new philosophy. The got rind of mainstay Brian Westbrook, Brian Dawkins, and most recently QB Donovan McNabb. Head Coach Andy Reid use to carry a lot of weight in the decisions on personnel, and that also seems to be changing. It seems that new General Manger Howie Rozeman and Team President Joe Banner are attempting to take back some of that control.

Vick proves he is not a NFL QB

Everyone is going to be quick to say Michael Vick is still rusty. That Four Letter Network for Bristol will say Vick is on the best talents in the NFL today, while that may be true Vick is not a typical NFL QB. In fact he isn’t even a good QB in this league. If the Eagles plan to use Vick to get them over the hump and back into the Super Bowel they will have to use him at a different position.

Eagles need to define Vick’s role

After more then two years Michael Vick returned to the NFL last night. While admittedly playing at only 70% Vick did complete all four of his passes, ran for one yard, and even lined up in the slot receiver position. While last night’s return was certainly a success for Vick personally, Head Coach Andy Reid and Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg must find a suitable role for Vick with the Eagles.

Michael Vick an Eagle?

On the surface this doesn’t seem to make alot of sense for the Eagles. Signing Vick as a backup QB, to starter Donovan McNabb seems just to be adding a potential problem to a locker room that has had enough of them over the past few years. Remember this is the locker room that could not contain or deal with one star receiver in Terrell Owens.  If the Eagles simply signed Vick to be their back up QB, this moves seems destined to fail.

McNabb has broken ribs, Eagles thin at QB

The signing of Michael Vick by the Philadelphia Eagles makes a lot more sense today, then it did a few weeks ago. Yesterday eagles starting QB Donovan McNabb fractured a rib yesterday in a game against the Carolina Panthers. While he likely won’t be able to play next week versus the New Orleans Saints, he shouldn’t be out for very long. This is the kind of injury he should be bale to work around, and since Vick will be eligible to play week three versus the Washington Redskins he doesn’t need to rush back.

Macklin and the Eagles cannot reach agreement

This is sort of a weird story. The Philadelphia Eagles and first round draft pick (19th overall) Jeremy Maclin the WR from Missouri cannot come to terms on a contract. Not because the players is demanding the whole world, and not because the team is being stingy. The only reason this deal isn’t done is because the market has yet to be establishedfor 2009 first round draft picks.

2009 Philadelphia Eagles Draft analysis

Heading into the 2009 draft the Philadelphia Eagles were looking to add some offensive weapons for QB Donovan McNabb. They were also looking for a back up running back to Brian Westbrook, and TE to help in blocking schemes.
