Weather Summary

A cold front is approaching Philadelphia from the west today. As a result, a southerly flow ahead of the advancing cold front is enabling temperatures to rise into the 60s across the region. At the same time, considerable cloudiness and rain showers have been persistent throughout the day. Showers will continue into the overnight hours with thermometer readings falling back into the upper 40s to near 50. On Saturday, temperatures will be slightly cooler with highs only in the 50s. Additionally, a wave of low pressure will develop along the cold front that will become stalled to our southeast. The low will produce widespread rain showers across the region in a steadier and heavier fashion than today's showers. Some areas could receive in excess of 1/2 inch of rain by Saturday afternoon. Eventually, the frontal system will be pushed farther to the south and east, but showers will persist into the early morning hours on Sunday. By Sunday afternoon, we can expect partial clearing with highs in the 50s. High pressure will build over the Middle Atlantic states on Monday through Wednesday, and a southerly flow near the middle of next week will boost temperatures into the mid and perhaps upper 60s. Abundant sunshine is expected from Monday through Wednesday before another frontal system impacts the area with clouds and showers by next Thursday.
