Philadelphia Union’s third kit pays homage to Bethlehem Steel FC

While the Philadelphia Union were set to reveal their new third kit at tonight’s meet the team event, the jersey was leaked earlier today. The jersey leak confirms a Feb. 11 report from Brotherly Game stating that the jersey would honor Bethlehem Steel FC and have the Philadelphia Union’s sponsor on it.

Well the third kit confirms both. It has a B to represent Bethlehem’s logo during its existence and also has the years of the existence on the jersey. It also has the word Bimbo front and center on the jersey.

The Union has confirmed that this jersey will be used in their home opener. They take on Sporting Kansas City on March 2 at PPL Park to kick off the 2013 campaign. This third kit will be used at other times throughout the jersey’s two year cycle.

Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs has a rich history and Bethlehem Steel is just a portion of it. This is a great way for the current Philadelphia soccer team to honor and pay homage to arguably the most winning soccer team in US soccer history.

The jersey itself is a great addition to the club’s jerseys. It is simple yet has a great purpose. The only thing that might be a little of is the red bimbo in the middle of the jersey, but the black and red combination look great together.

Fans that are going to the meet the team event tonight in Philadelphia will be able to see and purchase the third kit tonight. The Union really did well on this jersey design after some past questionable designs.
