Philadelphia Seed Planting Guide


The Seeds of Success

The Penn State Urban Gardening Program recommends the following OUTDOOR seed planting dates for vegetables: Unless specified, all veges listed are to be planted from seed to soil.

In spring, you can also start your seed indoorsThen, after the last frost has passed; transplant seedlings outdoors.  Different seeds sometimes require different sized containers to start growing indoors. You can even make your own seed containers from newspaper. Remember that different "perennial" seeds have different germination procedures, which includes soaking times and sowing temperatures.  But as far as vege seeds; just wait until the safe planting dates listed below and plant seeds directly in the prepared soil.

Be sure to read the instructions on seed packages for specific planting requirements. 

And now; here is your 2010 outdoor seed planting schedule:
