Philadelphia Garden Parties, Classes and Events for May - It's time to grow!

The gardening season is here, Philadelphia is blooming, and it's time to grow!  If you're a beginner gardener; remember, you don't need a green thumb to begin gardening; just begin gardening and you'll acquire a green thumb.  Here are some of the hottest gardening tickets in town for the month of May.  Sign up today and continue to bloom wherever you're planted!

Mt. Airy Learning Tree (MALT) is offering the Basics of Urban Eco-Edible Gardening class on Sunday, May 15, from 1:00 -3:30 pmMt. Airy Learning Tree, located on 6601 Greene Street in Philadelphia, is a non-profit continuing education program offering hundreds of classes in spring, fall, and winter.  Also note that on Saturday, June 4, from 10: am to 3 pm, the MALT Annual Hidden Gardens Tour will take place this year.  Each spring they find a group of passionate gardeners in the Northwest Philadelphia area to open their garden gates to registrants of this self-guided tour. This season, 13 new gardens will be on the tour in the Germantown, Mt. Airy, and Chestnut Hill communities. The tour gives folks from outside the neighborhood a chance to stroll down some charming tree-lined streets past a rich assortment of historic architecture to view creative gardens, both small and large. On the date of the tour, registrants can pick up maps and itineraries at the MALT offices.

Longwood Gardens is the place to be in May, Lilytopia will also take place from May 20-30 with the Lilytopia Symposium on May 23, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Also, now through Saturday, May 27, they are holding their Longwood Gardens Spring Festival.

On Saturday, May 21st, 10 am to 1 pm. (rain date Sunday, May 22), there will be a Plant Sale for Ned Wolf Park (NWP). NWP is a recently restored park at McCallum and W. Ellet Streets in Philadelphia's Mt. Airy Neighborhood (19119). Last year, PHS City Gardens Contest awarded 1st place to the Small Community Park. They have extensive shade and sun gardens with nearly 200 plant species which are mapped and listed in information boxes at the park. In the spring, our annual plant sale of perennials, shrubs, annuals, & houseplants donated from the talented gardeners and neighbors, helps to support the on-going maintenance and improvements at the park. Prices are well below retail and lots of knowledgeable gardeners are on hand to help at the sale.
