The play happened four and a half minutes into the third period with the Flyers holding on to a 4-0 lead. Ruhwedel dumped the puck in from the blue line when Zac Rinaldo connected with a bone-crushing hit. The point of contact was Rinaldo’s shoulder to Ruhwedel’s head. To make matters worse, Rinaldo left his feet to make the hit.
The 23-year-old Flyer was issued a match penalty in addition to a five-minute major for contact to the head. The Sabres would go on to score on the ensuing power play when Cody Hodgson redirected a Christian Ehrhoff shot from the point.
On the year, Rinaldo has two goals and two assists for four points in 67 games for the Flyers. He leads the team in penalty minutes at 153.
