If you were anywhere near center city Philadelphia yesterday, March 27 2014, you might have been wondering what the activity was on the plaza on the Municipal Services Building. Well it was the celebration for the Philadelphia Civic Flag Day. In short order, it was a chance for local school children to get the spotlight for a few to sing and talk about the city flag.
Yes, the city of Philadelphia has it's own flag and , in fact, small flags were distributed to those in attendance. Will Smith Sr. was there and he spoke for a few brief minutes about Philadelphia Civic Pride. He also read a few words from the proclamation that declared March 27 2014 as Philadelphia Civic Flag Day.
City Representative Desiree Peterkin-Bell issued the proclamation. "I was up all night writing this" she said. Numerous JR ROTC color guards and cadets also got a chance to show what they can do. They were represented from all areas of the city.
The ceremony lasted just under an hour. Upon the conclusion,cupcakes were distributed to those that wanted one.
