After backlash from “Duck Dynasty” fans, A&E has made the decision to allow Phil Robertson to come back to the show, after the network declared they were placing him on an “indefinite hiatus.” It seemed that Robertson’s fate was sealed and the future of “Duck Dynasty” was unclear, but a Dec. 27 report outlines a statement from A&E and assures fans that Phil Robertson will return for the new season of the show.
The statement said in part:
“Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family...a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.
So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.”
It is unclear what exactly prompted A&E’s decision to reinstate the Robertson family patriarch. Was it the outcry from fans who took to Twitter and Facebook stating their discontent? It seems that even those who were not fans of the show supported Robertson and his right to express his beliefs, even if they didn’t necessarily agree with them.
In case you missed it, the highly religious Phil Robertson was asked about homosexuality. It shouldn’t be surprising that he was vocal about his disagreement with it, but it wasn’t the fact that he isn’t a supporter of gay rights that had some people upset, but rather the words he chose to voice his opinion.
Phil Robertson reportedly regrets the “coarse language” that he used in stating his opinion.
Are you excited that “Duck Dynasty” will be back?
