Recently Phil Robertson was attacked for citing the Bible. He called homosexuality a sin and a mob mentality emerged calling for his job. In a time when people demand tolerance and are outraged by bullies the nation watched and many joined in on the bullying of one man.
Phil Robertson was labeled homophobic, anti gay, a hate monger and gay as many Americans called for his job in outrage. Freedom of speech is not exempt for Christians wiling to defend the Bible. I found myself wondering if those outraged advocating for tolerance and coexistence are angry at God without knowing it or accidental hypocrites.
The following are some of Phil’s “homophobic” quotes
Freedom of Speech – Phil’s quote regarding his preference drew the most attention
“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical.”
Phil Robertson implied in the above quote a man desiring a man more than a woman is a sin. He frequently quotes the Bible. It is understandable that everyone does not believe in the Bible and scriptures are not relevant in their life. However, if you truly believe in equality, freedom of speech, tolerance and coexistence Christians should be able to recite from the Bible and freely give their personal opinions and beliefs.
“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious. Sexual immorality, is number one on the list. How many ways can we sin sexually? My goodness. You open up that can of worms and people will be mad at you over it.”
“Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right.” This particular quote was 1 Corinthians 6:7-11
“I am just reading what was written over 2000 years ago. Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom. All I did was quote from the scriptures, but they just didn't know it.” also 1 Corinthians 6:7-11
Phil has many quotes; but, I’ll end his quotes with one that demonstrated much more tolerance and coexistence than he has been shown.
“However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
We serve a God of choice. We are free to choose who we serve and how we serve. We are free to love whomever we choose. How we treat our bodies is our personal choosing. People advocate for same sex all the time. Why is it if someone says they believe marriage is between a man and woman or they prefer the opposite sex and make biblical reference they are bullied and labeled anti-gay and “homophobic?
We do need tolerance in order to coexist. We need Christian men and women that are willing to share what the Bible says. Phil gives us a reminder of what Jesus said
"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you." John 15:12
We live in a culture that sells sex and immorality. Sex is used to sell burgers, cars, soap and toothpaste. For the record when it comes to immorality homosexuality is not first on the list. In the video Phil is bashed for his comments on immorality. TYT found a video of him preaching several years ago. He took his sermon from Romans 1:21-32. The TV panel accused him of hate attacked his appearance and called him gay.
If you find the Bible offensive don't shoot the messenger. It’s God's Word, HE is the one that has offended you. Take it up with HIM. God loves you and would love to hear from you. HE's always listening.
Thank you for reading. Take a moment and watch the video. May the Lord richly bless you and yours.
