Phil Robertson's statement and support

Atlanta’s own Chik-fil-A’s Dan Cathy was demonized for his stance in support of the Biblical definition of traditional marriage. Many supported that stand by the record number of sales recorded by the fast food over a year ago.
I have to admit that the first episode of Duck Dynasty didn’t grab me, but after watching a few, I grew to love the program. Each week we welcome the Robertson’s faith and family into our home via Duck Dynasty on A&E.
Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson is an outspoken Christian who believes in Jesus, traditional values, family, and living off the land, through hunting and fishing.
Many enjoy watching the program of the self-professed redneck millionaires who contrived their fortune by perfecting the duck call.
GQ interviewed, Mr. Robertson for the January 2014 issue. Since certain aspects of the interview became public, it has created a firestorm or social media.
“I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty, and like Him I love all humanity.” Phil Robertson “Don’t be intolerant of my conservatism while asking me to be tolerant of your liberalism.”
The official statement recently been released by the Robertson family: "We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and belief that the Bible is His Word. While some of Phil‘s unfiltered comments were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are his greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and ‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Phil would never incite hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.”
While under fire for his statements regarding the homosexual lifestyle, Phil Robertson is also under fire for what some have called racist remarks. "I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once," the reality star said of growing up in pre-Civil-Rights-era Louisiana. "Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field ... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people' — not a word! Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."
What disturbs me most about the whole situation is that Mr. Robertson answered the questions that were asked of him both truthfully and passionately, according to his belief system. He testified of what he witnessed. That is not to say that there was not mistreatment of black people in the era in which he grew up in, but today slavery is still alive and well. It is more acceptable, I guess, as people are living dependent on the federal government instead of on a plantation and instead of it being a hand up, it is more of a hand out. And that is not a black thing; it reaches across racial barriers.
Recently Oprah Winfrey stated, ““There are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die (referring to older white conservatives).” This was in response to being asked if she thought that people were against the president because of his race. However, may it be noted that it is not the color of the president’s skin, but rather his character and policies that have conservatives concerned about the direction of our nation under this administration. The president is as white as he is black. She received the medal of freedom following her statement.
The attack on Phil Robertson regarding his interview sheds light on the hypocrisy of liberalism. There is tolerance for everything, provided the opinions expressed do not go against what has been deemed politically correct.
Nicole Rowe, a professing gay person wrote, "I'm a big fan of the show Duck Dynasty AND I happen to be gay. It comes as no surprise to me (nor should it to anyone) that Phil would quote the bible or express his beliefs. He does this quite often on the show. I respect the beliefs, values, and lifestyle of the Robertson family as I would want others to respect mine. I do not view what Phil said as hatred toward homosexuals, but merely as a statement of his opinions on homosexuality. Phil is a straight man and doesn't understand how a man could desire to have sex with another man. BIG surprise!! I will continue to watch Duck Dynasty and do NOT support Phil's suspension. P.S. I ain't no yuppie girl.
Having shared this, I would like to inform you that I will not be watching any programming on your network other than Duck Dynasty (I do not wish to punish the Robertsons for your actions) until this gross display of intolerance has been expunged. Tolerance is a two way street. Supporting tolerance as long as they agree with your beliefs in so tolerance at all. It is chronic hypocrisy!
You are grossly out of touch with your viewers on this point. Most watchers of Duck Dynasty share Phil Robertson's beliefs and most who don't know the views of whom they are watching and simply take the show at face value. When you cower to those screaming the loudest, you simply shift the direction of oppression. You are not solving the problem with your actions, you are simply placing it on a different demographic.”
This young lady gets it. As Christians, we are to love God first and foremost and our neighbors as ourselves. The Bible clearly tells us that we are salt and light in this world. Salt is a preservative. Light dispels darkness. Phil was sharing salt and light on the subject and it was not well received by some, while others strongly support the Duck Commander founder. Jesus said we would be hated of all men for his name sake. He also said that men love darkness rather than light. Light exposes evil. And there is not a person who has not done something requiring the forgiveness and grace of God. We are all sinners, but the Bible gives light and the solution to our problem, namely Jesus.
Fox News has received the highest number of correspondence on their face book page regarding this issue. Large numbers of supporters for Phil Robertson’s right to free speech are speaking up, while of course others are condemning his statements as, “hate speech.”
