Phil Robertson, the 67-year-old patriarch of the family featured in the “Duck Dynasty” television show, is having great difficulty in shaking unwanted headlines at year’s end, according to Yahoo! News on Tuesday. The A&E network’s reality show’s star was giving a young man advice when he said that men should marry girls as young as 15-years-old.
The revelation of the statement came in the form of a YouTube video that was posted online 4 years ago. In the video, Robertson was speaking to a group in George in 2009.
Besides advising that a bride be young, he also suggested that she be toting a Bible and be able to cook a good meal.
In the statements asserted by Robertson, he said that if you wait until women get to be 20 years old, the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket, so you’ve got to marry these girls when they’re about 15 or 16 and they’ll pick your ducks. He added that one needs to check with mom and dad about that, of course.
Louisiana law dictates that marriage to a 16 year old is legal as long as the parents of the minor give their consent.
The latest controversial statement comes forward after A&E temporarily suspended Robertson two weeks ago for anti-gay remarks he made in a GQ interview.
