Phil Robertson, the reality show patriarch of “Duck Dynasty,” is advising men to marry girls when they are 15 or 16 so that “they’ll pick your ducks” and not "your pocket." In a newly resurfaced video footage that was posted on Monday on YouTube, "’Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson is ruffling feathers again; this time for comments he made years ago about how girls should marry when they're still teenagers,” reported CNN on Dec. 31, 2013.
Phil Robertson’s resurfaced YouTube video, which was originally posted in 2009 by YouTube user wakemakerducks (the name of Robertson’s company), appeared just days after A&E suspended Phil Robertson on Dec. 18 from the network because the “Duck Dynasty” star spoke openly about what he considered to be “sinful” in an interview for a featured article titled “What the Duck?” in GQ’s January 2014 issue.
"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. … It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man's anus."
While Phil Robertson questioned the appeal of same-sex relationships, he emphasized that he does not judge anyone and that in the end, it is all up to God. "We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?"
In response to A&E’s suspension and the widespread criticism about his very graphic statements on homosexuality, Phil Robertson sent the following statement to FOX411:
“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
After a strong backlash from supporters, including a Facebook page that accumulated 1.5 million likes and statements from political figures condemning A&E’s move, the network lifted its suspension and not one single episode of “Duck Dynasty” was impacted.
Similar to taking Phil Robertson’s statement on homosexuality as one man’s point of view -- is his statement on when girls should marry.
Phil Robertson, who was born in Vivian in Louisiana as the fifth of seven children, grew up in rough conditions without electricity, toilet, or bathtub. His family lived from what they could grow in their garden, what they could raise on the land, and what they could hunt in the woods. And as Phil Robertson says in the video, if you can find a wife that can cook a meal, and if she picks your ducks, “now that’s a woman.”
Phil Robertson’s advice for marrying a girl when she is 15 or 16 apparently also comes from some interesting life experience. "Look, you wait 'til they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks."
Phil Robertson married his wife Kay, who is four years younger than him, when she was 16. In regard to marrying a girl at the age of 15 or 16, the “Duck Dynasty” star tells his audience -- in what he calls "river rat counseling" -- to “check with Mom and Dad about that, of course.”
