Phil Robertson, Duck Dynasty's Roberston has plan for ISIS: 'Convert or kill'

Phil Robertson, reality television star of the popular series Duck Dynasty, has a plan to handle ISIS: Convert them or kill them, says Robertson. The 68-year-old patriarch weighed in on the rise of radical Islam, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity that if members of the Sunni jihadist group cannot get Jesus into their life, they should all be killed.

Writes EntertainThis from the USA Today: “You knew Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, who says he never goes anywhere without his Bible or his ‘woman,’ would bring a fresh perspective to the terrible ISIS situation. Robertson talked to Sean Hannity on Tuesday about the beheading of two journalists by the Islamic group and offered his solutions for how to handle it.”

After a comment from Hannity about ISIS not leaving Americans alone, Robertson said:

In this case you either have to convert them, which I think would be next to impossible. I'm not giving up on them, but I'm just saying, either convert them or kill them. One or the other.

Robertson’s comments are actually scoring some praise, and are a turnaround of sorts from his controversial remarks previously made regarding the sins of homosexuality, which drew Robertson a brief, nine-day suspension from the A&E show.

Robertson compared ISIS to “street gangs, street thugs on steroids” and said “we're going to have to deal with this group way more harshly than we have up to this point.”

Hannity drew attention to Robertson’s “convert or kill” proposal, telling the bearded reality star that he knows “they're going to be people that are always looking to jump on you and say, ‘Convert them or kill them.’ And they're going to say, ‘There goes Phil Robertson again.’ I know the media. I know they how act.”

In response, the unfiltered Robertson said: “I'd much rather have a Bible study with all of them and show them the error of their ways and point them to Jesus Christ, the author and perfector of having your sins removed and being raised from the dead. I would rather preach the gospel of Jesus to them. However, if it's a gun fight and a gun fight alone, if that is what they're looking for, me, personally I am prepared for either one.”

Video taken by ISIS militants of a second American journalist’s beheading – Steven Sotloff – was confirmed as authentic, prompting President Obama today to say the world is “repulsed” and that the U.S. objective is clear: “Degrade and destroy ISIL so that it’s no longer a threat, not just to Iraq but also to the region and to the United States,” Obama said.
