Phil Mickelson tied for first at Farmers Open 2011 with his wife Amy by his side

Phil Mickelson is tied for first place at the Farmers Insurance Open as he goes into Sunday’s play. Phil is not only riding high on his scores, he has another reason to celebrate. His wife Amy walked the 18 hole course for two days running, which is quite a feat for her, she has been suffering with breast cancer.

As Phil Mickelson goes into Sunday’s round, he is tied for first place with Bill Haas at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Phil’s conservative approach is paying off. In an interview on Saturday, Phil Mickelson said “the biggest thing for him is that he is not taking on anywhere near as much risk.”

Phil Mickelson is starting out right in 2011. His only win in 2010 was the Masters. With his wife by his side, all is right in his world today.

Amy Mickelson has not been at any of Phil Mickelson’s tournaments since her 2009 diagnosis of breast cancer. She did make an appearance when he won the Masters, but her health has not allowed her to be where she wants to be. That would be by her husband’s side at the tournaments he plays.

Amy Mickelson’s appearance at the Farmers Open seems to have made a difference in her husband’s game.

The only PGA stop in Connecticut is the Travelers Championship in Cromwell Connecticut. Phil Mickelson’s Connecticut fans would welcome both him and his wife, Amy, and hoping this is a tournament that Phil will play in this year. The Connecticut Travelers Open is in June, which is one of the most beautiful months to visit the Nutmeg State.
