Phelps' 2016 Olympics plans: No medal chase in Rio, hoping to have fun and watch

Though fans would love to see it happen, on March 18 UPI reported that a Michael Phelps' 2016 Olympics medal chase will not be happening. This shouldn't come as an enormous surprise to fans, but some hoped he would change his mind or that the door was still open. Now, it seems, Phelps has very much shut the door to any speculation he will participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Michael Phelps was in Brazil to receive the Exceptional Achievement Award, and he noted that he has done everything he wanted to do in the sport and it's hard for him to believe it's over. While he may be in Rio, Phelps' 2016 Olympics participation will be as a spectator, not as a swimmer.

The Olympic champion says he loves being retired, as he is happy, smiling and more relaxed. After winning a record 22 medals, it seems now he is taking the time to try out other things and he's having a great time doing it. Fans may be disappointed, but it seems Michael Phelps' 2016 Olympic plans suit him just fine.
