Phat Frog creator finishes big at FLW Lake Hartwell stop

Northern California bass pro and Phat Frog creator Ish Monroe made his mark with a top-20 finish today at the 2011 FLW Tour stop on Lake Hartwell.

Monroe, a Delta local from Hughson exits Hartwell with a 17th place finish for a three day total of 38 lbs 10 oz and a paycheck worth $12,000.

His first day on the water was his best, as the Nor Cal angler boated 16 lbs 10 oz on Thursday.  Friday he found another five for 13 lbs 15 oz, which put him in the running for the first field cut from 155 to 20.  Today Monroe fought the conditions and was only able to boat four bass, one short of the allowed limit.

A different strategy this morning brought in a smaller quality of bass.  Explaining he had to change it up today due the wet weather, Monroe stated, “The rain hurt because I was sight fishing.  He continued to say, “I had over 70 waypoints of bedding fish on my Lowrance HDS 10 but just couldn’t see them today.”

With the need to adapt he remarked he ended up throwing a spinnerbait.  His four for the day were a lighter load than he had the previous two days and Monroe entered the stage with 8 lbs 1 oz.  His three day total was a little more than 3-lbs shy of making the field final cut to 10.
