As of today, Feb. 24, the hat worn by Pharrell Williams at the Grammys on Jan. 26 is being sold on eBay with the highest bid at $14,500. The auction ends on Mar. 2, so the bids are expected to go much higher.
The brown fedora became a trending topic on Twitter after Pharrell, 40, wore it. Since the Vivienne Westwood hat received so much attention, the producer, rapper and singer decided to auction it on eBay to support his charity, From One Hand to AnOTHER that provides arts and eductional resources for children.
From One Hand to AnOTHER is a not-for-profit foundation Williams started in 2008, to help support "the Pharrell Williams Resource Centers' (PWRC) learning programs developed for every one of the underserved youth between the ages of 7 and 20 in at risk communities throughout the country.
The hat started off with a $200 bid, which is what Williams said he paid for it. The hat is going for $14,500 at the time of this writing. Bidding is set to continue until March 2, which is the same day as the Oscars, where Williams will perform "Happy."
The highest bidder will not only get the hat, but the winner will also get a letter of authenticity.
Williams has worn another version of the Westwood hat to several other events including the Oscar Nominees Luncheon, on stage at the 2014 BRIT Awards and while performing at the NBA All Star basketball game.
During the Grammys, Arby's tweeted to Williams asking for their hat back. Last Thursday, Williams tweeted information about the auction to Arby's saying, "Hey @Arbys, you want my hat? Now's your chance..."
