The new weekly message from Rabbi Nachman Kahana discusses, among other things, how the way that Moses ("Moshe" in Hebrew) was speaking to Pharaoh ("Paro" in Hebrew) in God’s name is what made Pharaoh obstinate to the point that he refused Moses’s request to give the Hebrews three days off from their slave labor. From this, Rabbi Kahana makes a point about the Biblical basis for Jewish ownership of the (entire) Land of Israel.
Rabbi Kahana is the spiritual leader of the Chazon Yechezkel synagogue in Jerusalem's Old City. He has lived in Eretz Yisrael (the land of Israel) for decades, although he did grow up in Brooklyn. While he is focused primarily on Jews who have made the choice to live in and build up Eretz Yisrael, he does have a considerable (if less personally committed) following among American supporters of a strong, safe Israel.
Pharaoh’s unwillingness to recognize God, according to Rabbi Kahana, was, obviously, a part of the Jewish past. But today, as Rabbi Kahana writes, "In the present Medina [Hebrew for "State"] of Israel, official Israel refuses to state that the authentic claim of Am Yisrael [Hebrew for "The Jewish People"] over the land is HaShem [Jewish way of referring to God]’s promise to our forefathers that this land belongs solely to the Jewish nation forever. … [There is a naive belief that, by] maintaining the conflict as a political, as opposed to a theological one, there could be a chance of everlasting peace of Paradise in the Holy Land.”
Rabbi Kahana's weekly message also discusses the prophecy that the descendants of Ishmael and the descendants of Edom will come together in a military conflict to destroy the State of Israel and the Jews. Additionally, it discusses the role of God’s protection in the way Pharaoh never just had Moses and his brother Aaron killed, as well as how God’s protection has been a fundamental part of Jewish history, including into the present day.
