Landover, Md --- It’s as if the black and white police car has gone the way of the dinosaur.
Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw unveiled the new design of the department’s patrol cars today at FedEx Field.
The new cruisers feature an all new color scheme, gray and blue, with “FIRST TO SERVE” printed on the rear.
On display today were 24 new police cars featuring the new design. A department spokesman says this order is for a total of 75 new patrol cars. The county anticipates six new marked patrol cars arriving each week.
The PGPD patrol division currently has a total of 600 marked patrol vehicles.
The patrol cars have been more than a year in the works. The last time county police cruisers had a makeover was in the late 1990’s.
