The Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, features a celebrities round. The tournament is a mixture of pro-golfers, sports celebs and Hollywood long-time golfers. One of the common denominator in various sports, is the need for great eye-hand coordination and a keen perception.
Do the celebrity athletes have an advantage over the Hollywood celebs? America's favorite funny man, Bill Murray is hoping for a repeat win, after taking the celebrity title championship in 2012.
The Tribune News reports on Feb. 9, 2013, "This year’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which starts today, features the power coupling of Tiger Woods and Tony Romo."
Formidable celebrity athletes in this year's tournament, include "the great one," NHL's Wayne Gretzky, fresh off of a Super Bowl win, Baltimore Raven's quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, and 11-time world champion surfer, Kelly Slater.
The celebrities prize winnings go to support local charities.
The starting field of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am consists of 156 professionals and 156 amateurs. One professional is paired with one amateur. Each day, 52 two-man teams will play on one of the three courses.
Then on the final day, those professionals and pro-amateur teams making the 54-hole cut will play on the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The tournament takes place on the links in beautiful Pebble Beach, CA,. There are three courses at Pebble Beach, currently Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and Monterrey Peninsula Country Club.
The Pebble Beach tournament was originally founded by crooner, Bing Crosby. Crosby's family continued the tradition after Crosby's death. The tournament event is currently sponsored by AT&T Corporation, since 1986.
