Army Pfc. Adam Keith Jackson, 22, was charged with capital murder this week in El Paso, Texas, for killing his 11-month-old son, Aiden.

Adam Jackson was in charge of the baby’s care, Feb. 7, 2014, while the baby's mother was gone, for an undetermined length of time.

The baby was found unresponsive in his bed the following morning and immediately transported by paramedics to El Paso Children’s hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at the hospital; although reports indicate he had likely died the previous day.

The emergency room pediatrician found injuries to the infant’s body consistent with child abuse and contacted local civilian authorities, since the murder was committed off-post. An autopsy was ordered.

Post mortem findings revealed the baby had a skull fracture and injuries to his throat and ankle.

There is an active investigation into the abuse and murder.

Adam Jackson's bail was set at $250,000.

Jackson is assigned to the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss.

Capital murder in the United States is a murder where the accused assailant is eligible for the death penalty.
