DEXTER-- Peyton Watson scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Dexter Tigers field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates on Friday afternoon.
Watson got the scoring started 10:20 into the game when she drove past the Pirates defenders and put a shot past goalie Jenna Chapman to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Watson said, "I received the ball from the corner and dribbled through all their defenders and got a clean shot off."
Watson set up the second goal of the game when she assisted sophomore Emily Watson in her first goal of the season.
Peyton Watson scored early in the second half to give Dexter a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Freshman Grace Belanger scored her first high school goal when she took a pass from Watson and put it into the cage with 17:11 remaining in the second half.
Watson leads the Tigers with 11 goals through six games. She joins Marissa Mitchell and Justice Mower as juniors on the Dexter roster.
The Tigers are hoping to get contributions from the solid group of underclassmen as the second half of the season approaches.
That is exactly what they got from Emily Watson and Belanger.
"I think it is important because it is a big confidence booster for all the freshmen," Peyton Watson said. "We need it, I can't be the only one who scores."
The sophomore goalie duo of Kolby Kain and Kaitlyn Paquin combined to make two saves for the Tigers.
Kain played in the field during the second half.
She has played the majority of the season in goal. She saw her first action out of goal on Wednesday and she dished out three assists in a victory over Stearns.
Dexter (5-1) will travel to Hermon on Monday. They will travel to Old Town on Tuesday to face the Coyotes. Old Town is 6-0-1 and have not allowed a goal this season.
Chapman made two saves for the Pirates. PCHS (2-5) will host Mattanawcook on Monday.
