PetSmart recalls Dentley's chew hooves

PetSmart  has recalled most of its chew hoof products, including Dentley's chew hooves and any others made by Pet Carousel, Inc. in Sanger, CA and purchased between October 2, 2009 and November 3, 2009.  It was a voluntary recall based on evidence of Salmonella contamination at the manufacturing plant and, while not all stores received product believed to be contaminated, PetSmart pulled all potentially affected product as a safety measure.

If you have been using the popular chew hooves with your pet and your pet shows any unusual symptoms such as diarrhea or lethargy, contact your veterinarian.  Be advised, though, that there is some risk to humans and to other household pets as well, from handling these dried meat products or from pets who are not ill but may become carriers through licking, etc.

If you have any questions about your pet's safety or your own related to use of these products, contact your veterinarian or other health care practitioner.  For further information on the recalled products, call your local PetSmart or the company's corporate customer service at 1-888-839-9638.
