It all started when AniClin, a testing facility that tests on animals, went out of business. When they left they closed the doors and locked them as well as the gates but whet they left behind was indescribable. They left 120 testing beagles and 55 primates inside to die. The previous employees did not care and went over the fence to go in and rescue the animals. They sent out feelers for help to get the animals and Win Animal Rights and Best Friends Animal Society stepped up to the plate.
The previous owner filed a court motion to stop the taking of the animals and refused to allow anyone to just give them away; they wanted to sell them to another facility. The judge ruled in favor of the rescues and it was set to take them. That day came in a whirl wind as Pets Alive in Middletown, NY prepared for days setting temporary fencing and such to accommodate all the animals.

It took six van or trucks to get all the crates out of the facility and get all the dogs to Pets Alive. The rescuers were not allowed in the building, only the previous workers. They brought each dog out one by one and they were placed into crate after crate. No dog had a name but only a number. The previous employees were very taken back by this rescue and some even showed major concern asking to keep them as comfortable as possible as they are all really good dogs. One even adopted one of the dogs that had been in his care while working at the facility.
30 dogs were taken by the to Hubert’s Animal Shelter where they will have them vetted, taken care of and then adopted out. The worst part for the volunteers that day was when they realized these poor dogs had never set foot on grass before and did not know how to react to such a thing. They were so scared, that some volunteers had to actually sit down in the pens with the dogs and show them it was ok while petting them. It took some awhile before nosing around and exploring their new surroundings. One thing people noticed was as they walked past each cage was each dog would wag its tail and was so happy. They knew they were going to be alright.
This is just the start for this large group of wonderful babies that had endured more than any of us will ever know. These beagles still love us humans even though humans have put them thru so much torture. Thankfully to Win Animal Rights, Best Friends and Pets Alive that they will all be taken care of and find their way into special loving homes. The Pet Alive rescue is having a naming donation going on. Go to their site and go to the story where the donate button it. Click it and donate $25 and you will get to name one of the beagles. The donation will go to helping with the cost of taking care of these beautiful dogs that long for companionship.
