Petroleum Club benefiting the Boys & Girls Club Colorado Alliance in November

I attended the 2nd annual Denim & Diamonds Ball this past November 7, 2009. The event was sponsored by a number of local oil and gas companies that have offices in Denver, Colorado. The event was well attended with around 250 people at the Petroleum Club in the Denver Athletic Club.

I was fortunate to sit with Mike Coffman, the Regional Service Director for the Boys & Girls Club (BGCA) at the event. He and I discussed the petroleum industry’s support of the organization and its programs. In a recent follow-up e-mail he indicated that potentially $25,000 was raised by this month’s event. This amount is not final and I will follow-up with a more solid dollar amount when it is known.

The event had some fun mock gambling tables set-up with black jack, poker, and roulette. The Rifters, a band based in and around Taos, NM, played country music at the event. People attending wore a variety of outfits from very formal gowns and black tuxidos to jeans, cowboy hats, and T-shirts. The cost to attend was $75 and was open to anyone who wished to be a part of it. I enjoyed the inclusive and fun filled evening meeting people who worked for the industry, as well as people who worked for the BGCA. Be on the lookout for the event on the Denver Athletic Club’s web-site next year (2010) to make the 3rd annual event even better than this one.
