She survived by clinging to a palm tree for over eight hours, despite the excruciating pain of a broken pelvis and massive internal injuries. Her fiance did not survive the tsunami, he was swept away and reportedly drowned.
A year after her ordeal and recovery, Petra Nemcova created the charitable organization, 'Happy Hearts Fund'.
