Peoria, AZ: Yesterday the story of Carmela, the little brindle Pit Bull who had chewed her own leg off was published here. You can read that story here, or at the link below.
Little Carmela had been injured from being hit by a car a year ago. Rather than getting the medical treatment she needed, the woman who should have been her guardian, 22-year-old Michelle Busse is alleged to have merely put her out in the yard and ignored the injury. Even being offered a payment plan by a local veterinarian, no treatment was given to little Carmela, who must have suffered so very much from the pain of that injury.
Over time, Carmela had licked and chewed on her wounds to the point that she chewed off a large portion of her own leg. Finally a compassionate person gave a tip to the authorities about this wounded dog, and Carmela was found trying to walk with what was let of her leg, leaving a trail of blood everywhere she walked.
She was taken for emergency care to the Peoria Emergency Animal Clinic, where her leg was amputated, and then has been cared for by the compassionate staff at Sun Valley Animal Shelter. She is currently waiting for the perfect new loving forever home. The contact information for adopting Carmela is given in yesterday's article, which is linked below.
A new petition has been drawn up by the wonderful advocates at Hand4Paws, seeking justice for this horrible neglect. The petition asks for maximum penalties to be imposed against Busse if she is convicted of this crime, and to never be allowed to have another animal again in her lifetime. Please consider supporting this petition for justice. You can access it here or at the link below.
Carmela suffered unimaginable pain over the course of a very long year. Day after day Busse saw Carmela's suffering and seemingly ignored it. She deserves to have not only a loving home, but justice for the neglect that caused her to resort to chewing off her own leg. No animal should ever have to suffer in that manner.
