Peter from Portland is a lover, not a fighter

Peter has made some good friends at the shelter where he is running out of time. He came into the shelter with multiple bite wounds and lacerations, but surprised everyone with his sterling temperament.

According to the shelter, Peter “Surprisingly engaging with dogs during on leash dog/dog evals.  Even from a distance his expression showed eagerness but without intensity.”

“His greetings were nice too.  Not a thorough dog/dog and no off leash play has been done.  He has multiple bite wounds, some fresh, some old; so he was either a bait dog, a picked on dog, or repeatedly started trouble and ended up with the worst of it.  He isn’t saying.”

Peter is only about a year old and has had an obviously rough time of it. He’s already neutered and a good looking 46 pounds.

Peter came to the shelter in an unusual manner. Walking down the road one day still bleeding from fresh bite wounds, he ran into the good Samaritan who eventually turned Peter into the shelter.

“He tried to jump on the finder and lick his face.  The shelter sewed him back up, neutered and chipped him, and put him in the adoption kennels.”

The shelter believes in Peter and is looking for a group who will make Peter their project. He isn’t as well known as the Michael Vick dogs famous from books and television and who also came with $50,000 each as incentive. He also isn’t as serious a rehab case as the Vick’s dogs.

Here is an opportunity for a rescue group to help a dog just be a dog for the first time in his short life. The only other option for Peter is the end of his very short life.

Rescue work is long, hard hours with no pay for most, but the gift of being able to help a dog like Peter holds a reward much more valuable than $50,000 and an appearance on TV. The joy of being able to see a dog such as Peter learn to walk on a leash and sleep in a crate, to have a family of his own and experience the life meant for a dog is what separates rescue from corporations.

Please consider saving Peter. “Sweet loving soul!!!   He wants to loveyou!”
