Peter Asher pops in to Gretsch Guitars booth at NAMM

Connie Lindell told Beatles Examiner Jan. 28 that Peter Asher, who'll be among the guests at the upcoming Fest for Beatles Fans in New York in early February, paid a visit to the Gretsch Guitars booth at the 2014 NAMM Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, on Jan. 25.

“As luck would have it, guitarist John Jorgenson (Desert Rose Band, The Hellecasters) also happened to be at the booth checking out the latest Gretsch models,” she said. “John was checking out the Rancher 5035TFT Dreadnaught with Fideli'Tron double-coil pickup, Bigsby, and bar bridge, while Peter test drove the Roots Collection New Yorker archtop.”

Much to the delight of NAMM attendees, the two musicians turned their chance meeting into an impromptu collaboration and jam, which concluded with a version of the Shadows’ classic “Apache”.

“Asher’s visit to NAMM 2014 also included brief stops by G7th: The Capo Company, Fishman, and Mike Lull Custom Guitars,” she said. The NAMM Expo featured booths, which covered six exhibit halls, three floors and numerous other lobby and hallway displays that spilled over into the neighboring Marriott.

“The following night, Peter performed at the Americana Music Association Pre-Grammy Salute & Tribute to the Everly Brothers featuring many Grammy nominated artists including Sarah Jarosz, Jim Lauderdale, Rodney Crowell, Della Mae, James King, Bobby Rush, and the Milk Carton Kids,” Lindell said. Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder and T-Bone Burnett were among the many other artists who also graced the stage.

Several celebrities were also in the audience, including Steve Martin, whose song with Edie Brickell “Love Has Come For You” (from the album of the same name, which was produced by Asher) later won the Grammy for Best American Roots Song. She said Asher joked about being a “British Invasion” into the world of Americana before performing “Crying In The Rain” as his tribute to Phil and Don Everly, followed by Peter and Gordon’s #1 hit “World Without Love”.

Gretsch Guitars will be bringing its special George Harrison exhibit for display to the upcoming Fest for Beatles Fans in New York, February 7-9, 2014. The display includes rare and unpublished photos of George provided by the Harrison Estate, a custom shop prototype of George’s original Duo Jet™ guitar, and more. Thanks to sponsorship support from Gretsch, the Fest for Beatles Fans will also be presenting Peter Asher’s much-feted multi-media show “A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond” on Feb. 8 and 9.
