From art to books, adults to children, Pete the Cat is the world’s most beloved, and may we say, grooviest feline!
If you are unfamiliar with Pete the Cat, don’t miss out! Read on!
Pete the Cat is the ultimate hipster blue cat, painted by artist, James Dean. Dean was born in 1957 in Fort Payne, Alabama. He fell in love with art at an early age while growing up watching his father, a self-taught artist, reproduce art as a hobby. Dean attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and studied engineering. But, he could never truly give up his love of art. (Let’s hear a collective sigh of relief from all of you Pete lovers!)
In 1999, Dean adopted a black kitten; he named it Pete. And a muse was born! Whether Pete is driving an old VW bus, drinking coffee, playing guitar or wearing red shoes (Pete prefers chucks!), he is definitely known as the hippest of cats and a highly desired art piece.
But, the adventures of Pete the Cat do not just strike art lovers, but readers as well. Pete is the star of his own line of children’s books, a must-own for kids of all ages. Written by author, Eric Litwin, and illustrated by James Dean, each book contains a clever story and catchy song that will have kids (and adults!) bopping along.
The tales of Pete are not just limited to the colorful pages of a book, however; Pete is a star online too! Harper Collins has fun audio/videos of Pete that encourage your child to read and sing along with the books; a great way for children to combine literature and music.
