According to Deadline, Disney is working toward a reboot of the classic family movie, “Pete’s Dragon.”
The 1977 original film told the story of a young orphan boy who becomes friends with an animated magical dragon. A cruel family that makes him work constantly takes him in. He makes his escape and ends up in a seaside town where he and his dragon can live in a cave, until he meets Nora and Lampie, a lighthouse keeper and his daughter.
The “Pete’s Dragon” reboot will have David Lowery and penning partner Toby Halbrooks working on the script. Lowery is known for the release, “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” as writer and director.
There is no word if Disney will opt to keep with the original story or make the film a bit darker or funnier. Nothing official has been released about the film coming to theaters just yet.
As more information spills out about “Pete’s Dragon,” updates will be added.
