Pete Holmes "Ex-Men" fire beloved X-Men characters

Marvel’s X-Men have a long history. From comic books and movies to cartoons and video games, they’re one of the most iconic comic book teams of all time and have more than a few members that pop up repeatedly in media even outside of the X-Men-specific franchises, including “Lego Marvel Super Heroes” and “Marvel: Avengers Alliance“.

Pete Holmes, of “The Pete Holmes Show” which shows on TBS Monday - Thursday, has a number of comedy sketches where Professor Xavier, leader of the X-Men, is downsizing the team. Some of the most popular and well-known members end up cut for various reasons.

These X-men skits began in October 2013, debuting at the New York Comic Con panel, with the public’s most well-known mutant.

Wolverine was the first hero of the X-Men to be considered for downsizing and was also the one to receive what felt like the most vicious cutting down for his powers being at odds with what the X-Men do - fighting a man who controls metal. Perhaps it only felt so vicious because Wolverine has been a constant fan favorite, but whatever the reason, Peter Holmes as Professor Xavier points out a lot of flaws to Logan’s mutation.

Cyclops has appeared in every X-Men specific franchise, most commonly acting as the field leader to the X-Men. Xavier asks him some pressing questions about where he wears his sunglasses, what might happen if he took them off at an inopportune time and then sends him on his depressed way. If you’ve always had a little tinge of hate for Scott, you’ll love this sketch.

Gambit, everyone’s favorite swamp rat, doesn’t make the cut either. After confirming his power is ‘throwing stuff’, Professor Xavier taunts him about the types of cards he could throw and leaves him with a weak promise that they might call him if they’re in a ball pit and get attacked. But probably not.

Rogue is one of the most well-known females on the X-Men team. Made even more popular by her prominent role in the movies and a position in video games such as “Deadpool”, some might be shocked to see her cut from the team. All because she can’t keep her hands off everyone else.

Storm is the odd man out in the “Ex-Men” skits in that she didn’t get fired in the normal fashion. Professor Xavier even admits she’s pretty great, something most fans have always known. The problem arises when he tries to misuse her weather control powers.
