Few books have struck a chord with me as did Petalwink Learns to Fly, the first book in a series featuring The Adventures of Petalwink the Fairy(TM).
In this beautifully illustrated over-sized book, the purple-haired Petalwink goes on a journey of self-discovery, trying to understand why she can't fly and if perhaps she was meant to do something else.
She tries to swim with a fish, jump with a frog and slither like a snake in a self-discovery quest.
In the end, she discovers she's happy to be herself and realizes that in order to fly, she must believe in herself.
Angela Sage Larsen's charming story and imagination-friendly illustrations will take any little girl on a journey to find her own voice in a world that celebrates differences.
Larsen, who just signed a seven-book deal, is one of those rising children's authors to watch.
Petalwink Comes in Second is due for release this Fall and is available for pre-order at Petalwink.com.
