PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has a fairly well-known track record when it comes to video games. They inexplicably don't mind punting chickens in Fable 2, defenseless chickens that are no threat to your character whatsoever, but they have a big problem with defending yourself from vicious dogs that are trying to bite your nuts off in Call of Duty: World at War. What, then, would they say about what's going on in Overlord II?
One of the first tasks presented to you in Overlord II involves sending your minions to club baby seals to death and steal their lifeforce, which you then use to summon more minions. Not only that, but your minions will occasionally behead the seals and wear their cute little faces as a hat!
While that may seem disturbing on some level, it also sounds pretty freaking sweet to a lot of gamers out there (you sick bastards!). Much like Fable 2, Overlord prides itself on its sense of humor and is in no way representative of reality. The difference here, I think, is that you don't actually kill the chickens in Fable 2, but you are most certainly killing things in Overlord. That may be the step over the line PETA needs and will most likely be throwing a fit any day now. After all, they did recently make a bit of a fuss over seal slaughter in World of WarCraft, so this should be an easy transition for them.

F**k PETA.
yeah f**k peta, their beliefs are good, but that go about it all the wrong way...much like Scientology
not that Scientology beliefs are good...maybe good for my funny bone, but stupid indeed
If you actually read about the World of Warcraft event, it was simply an event created to raise awareness about the REAL seal slaughter every year, and if you paid attention to gaming blogs you would've seen all of that buzz.
anyway, bet you $100 if they do "throw a fit" about this game - it'll get attention, and bring even more awareness to the seal slaughter.
I wonder if PETA had a problem with Zelda back in the day? Zelda led kids to believe that chickens could withstand infinite sword attacks. Then again, it also made kids believe that if you harm animals, they will come at you in great numbers.
In Overlord 1 you can kill sheeps to earn Lifeenergy. And PETA hasnt' say against this. Are seals in their eyes better as another animals? By the way, the real sealslaughters are badder like the virtual.
Got something to say?
