PETA none too happy with Broadway Joe's choice of wardrobe

The good folks at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are not exactly thrilled with what former football legend Joe Namath wore to the Super Bowl, as reported by CBS New York on Jan. 2, 2014.

You can call him Joe Willie; Broadway Joe; Super Bowl III MVP; or even an NFL Hall of Fame inductee, but as far as PETA is concerned, don't call him for clothing tips.

Joe being Joe...

In the wake of the former NY Jets All-Star quarterback joining with fellow NFL great Phil Sims for the Super Bowl XLVIII pre-game coin toss, Broadway Joe showed up looking like ... well, Broadway Joe.

Well known for living life to the fullest, while nattily attired in a fur coat that gives other fut coats an inferiority complex, PETA sent out a tweet within second of Namath appearing in one of the globe's most watched televised events:

Yo @peta, how many animals died to make Joe Namath's fur coat?

Not quite done yet, PETA followed up their message on the micro-blogging site an image of a pile of skinned animals with the text message of:

FYI @RealJoeNamath: Here’s the REST of your fur coat.

Other than being one of the finest quarterbacks ever to set foot on the gridiron, Namath made a name for himself off the field of play decades ago by once advertising (and wearing) panty hose in a television commercial, as well as after retiring from pro football, would often show up on the sidelines wearing his famous full-length fur coat.

Without as much notoriety, Namath also volunteered with the March of Dimes for well over 40 years.

With little fanfare, Namath also served the child health organization as their WalkAmerica Honorary Chair from 1998–2007.
