Like small children, we must remain cognizant that our pets can get into everyday things at home which can lead to all kinds of illnesses even death.
Look around your home.
The obvious are electrical cords. Cover them when possible.
The kitchen houses disinfectants, dish detergent, and everyday cleaners that are extremely toxic. While on the subject, the garage can be deadly. Never let your pet near antifreeze!
Some plants are also hazardous to your pet’s health. Keep them off the floor where your pet can’t reach them.
Christmas ornaments or any nick knack can be sharp when chewed by your furry friend so beware. Don’t forget to keep the chocolate in the candy dish and off the coffee table so your dog can’t reach it.
The bathroom hosts a whole array of things your pet can get into. Dental floss if swallowed can cause intestinal blockage. Vitamins and medications should be locked up in a cabinet. Keep curling irons off when not in use.
Don’t forget your home office. Make sure your paper shredder is unplugged when you’re not using it. Paper shredders could wreak havoc on your pet’s tongue or feet.
Dogs love to play but never play ball with a ball smaller than a tennis ball. This is a huge chocking hazard. As far as dog toys, either remove the squeaker or find a dog toy that has none to begin with.
In short, anything that your dog can reach but is not allowed to have should be relocated to a safer place.
