California vehicle owners now have one more choice in license plate designs. The California Pet Lover’s license plate became a reality when the 7,500 preorder goal was met earlier this month. The new plate not only has a picture of a dog and cat, but it reminds us that spaying and neutering saves lives.
Proceeds from the plate will help fund free and low-cost spay and neuter procedures statewide. Currently, more than 500,000 animals are destroyed in California each year for lack of homes. Sterilization is one piece of the puzzle in solving the pet overpopulation problem.
Judie Mancuso, president of theCalifornia Spay and Neuter License Plate Fund, Inc., who worked hard to make this project a reality, told Examiner in a written statement, “Now, over 32 million registered vehicle owners in the state will have the option to buy the new plate. The most successful specialty plates in California bring millions of dollars per year into their respective causes. We believe the Pet Lover's License Plate has the potential to also raise significant funds; possibly millions of dollars annually for spay and neuter surgeries.”
The California Department of Motor Vehicles started the implementation on Jan. 8 but it will take a bit of time for the plates to start showing up in your neighborhood. The cost of a sequential plate is $50 and vanity plates are $98. Please check www.PetLoversPlate.com for details.
