There are plenty of toy drives for children over the holidays, but the Woodlands Dog Park Club will be hosting a pet food drive this weekend. It is no surprise that dogs have a positive effect on their owners both physically and mentally, but pets have an even greater importance in the lives of seniors who often lead isolated lives.

So it should come as no surprise that some seniors will actually give what little food they have to their dogs before they feed themselves. According to the Meals-On-Wheels Association of America, Texas ranked fourth in the number of seniors who were under-nourished. That’s where the pet food drive comes in.

The pet food drive is an effort to support The Friendship Center which is an agency that administers the Meals-On-Wheels program in Montgomery County, Texas. So if you want to help seniors and their pets, please join the Woodlands Dog Park Club in supporting the pet food drive on Saturday, December 19, 2009.

A great article, we got our wonderful Shepherd mix dog (great with the baby and older boy) from our local no kill shelter. We also contribute regularly, this is a great idea!

Good article! I hope people will donate lots of dog and cat food to help out. I do know some folks who would feed their animals before themselves if it came down to it.

this is so good- when considering how government programs assist the needy, no thought goes into what is provided for their pets. Food assistance buys only that, food, and some items of food are excluded. Pet foods and pet needs are excluded too. Sad when it is so essential to seniors to have a pet. This is a great way to provide for the pets of those that need it.

When my cats passed away I took the food, bowls, carry case, litter trays, and everything to the local shelter. They were delighted with it.

Bobbi, first... GREAT WORK for the animals!! We fostered a darling Cocker Spaniel from the Shelter last year and he was a wonderful foster-brother to my Poodle (the Spaniel potty-trained the Poodle, can you imagine!?) before moving to his permanent home with a friend. He's now the happiest, healthiest, most ACTIVE (hyperactive) 9 yr old Spaniel you could ever meet. Such a great dog!

Second, if you DO want to try Green Smoothies (and believe me, you really do ;)) feel free to hitch on for recipes, advise, and generally GREAT friendship and fun on Facebook (search for: DAUNTLESS DIVA)

Every so often I lead (of course totally FREE) GS Challenges to teach newbies about these simple, awesome drinks!

Keep up the good work and I'll keep reading your articles!
