Pet Airways flew abused, puppy mill dogs from Utah to Long Island. CNN has been airing a story all weekend about 50 dogs that were rescued from puppy mills around the country, and were flown to Long Island on Friday. Some of the puppies are from Utah, they were abused and lived in filth and were at risk of being put to sleep because they were unwanted. The CNN story stated that some of the dogs had never been touched by humans, and had never touched grass because they lived in crates.
Pet Airways flew the puppies to Long Island, New York on Friday, and they were allowed to stay in the main cabin, not the cargo area. Pet Airways picked up the tab, which would normally cost about $300 per dog. They enjoyed a special Thanksgiving meal of "canned turkey with potatoes and carrots; duck and sweet potato dinners, and bagged pheasant" during a layover in Chicago before continuing on to New York.
The puppies were mainly small breed dogs that included Yorkies, shih tzus, Pomeranians and terriers from 4 months old to 3 years, according to Gothamist. To see a slideshow of the dogs, click here.
The dogs will be up for adoption at the Best Friends Animal Society at the North Shore Animal League as early as next week. For their website, click here.

Pet Airways got suckerd by the second hand pet store people again. How stupid are their not people in California and Utah that will be local dogs.. Or do you have to take them to New York to find a sucker to buy them?
The relocation program is a result of manuevers to gain publicity, and it is a fact that many areas have scarce supplies of "desirable" or should I say "designer" rescue dogs available for adoption. Not that there are no dogs available, just that it is becoming stylish to have a purebred dog that you can claim to have rescued, instead of purchasing it legitimately at a pet store. Many of these so called rescue shelters are charging up to $400. per puppy for these "designer rescue" dogs too.
