Another US puppet leader may be in trouble as a Pakistani court has issued an arrest warrant for former president PervezMusharraf in connection with the 2007 killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
The former Pakistani president, who now resides in London, was given billions of dollars during his decade in rule by the US government.
According to a CBS report, asenior Pakistan government official said the warrant was issued on the basis of findings by the main federal police, known as the FIA or Federal Investigation Agency.
The anonymous official said, "The FIA found enough evidence to recommend General Musharraf's arrest so that he is presented in court."
Coming to Musharraf’s defense is Mohammad Ali Saif, a Pakistani barrister and a member of Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League who says the case has no legal basis.
However a UN commission stated last year that the possibility of the involvement of Pakistan's military and security establishment in the assassination of Ms. Bhutto could not be ruled out.
Of course, Washington is showing concern over the turmoil that could arise from this issue. According to one diplomat, "Bitter political infighting in Pakistan will of course be of concern to the US, just at a time when the US is trying to establish closer relations with Pakistan.”
The anonymous diplomat goes on to say, "Every time the matter of President Musharraf becomes a high profile issue, there are some in Pakistan who remember the undemocratic character of his military regime and the backing he received from the U.S. Ultimately, this feeds in to anti-U.S. sentiment which is already strong in Pakistan."
Another US-backed (bought-off) military regime that will turn citizens of other nations against the United States.
Starting to see a trend here?
