Pert Near Sandstone comes to Ames on January 17 (Photos)

Minneapolis bluegrass band Pert Near Sandstone will make a stop in Ames on Thursday, January 17, for a show at DG's Tap House (127 Main Street). North Carolina string band The Freight Hoppers will serve as the opening act for the evening. The doors at DG's Tap House will open at 8 p.m., and the music will start at 9 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10, and they may be purchased at the door or online through MidwesTix. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Pert Near Sandstone got their start in the same roots music hotbed that produced Bob Dylan, The Jayhawks, and Spider John Koerner in past years and is currently responsible for Charlie Parr, Trampled By Turtles, and 4onthefloor. The 5-piece bluegrass band has shared the stage with bands like Wilco and Yonder Mountain String Band and performed on the Garrison Keillor radio show "A Prairie Home Companion". In late 2011, Pert Near Sandstone released their fifth full-length studio album, Paradise Hop. Check out music from the album in the nearby video box.
