Personalized, custom reading lists from Omaha Public Library

Non-readers use the excuse all the time. So do folks who say they "don't like to" read. There are one billion books, magazines, journals, blogs, etc., but they can't find anything they like to read. Is is a matter of not being able to find things or not making an effort? In any case, the Omaha Public Library is here to help those who have trouble finding books that they will enjoy.

The Custom Reading List service from OPL helps readers find reading material that they will have fun with. Users simply fill out a simple questionairre and, like magic, the Library will produce a list of items that fit the bill. Click here for an online form.

Library patrons need to indicate which genres they like to read, which they do not enjoy and what medium is their most preferred (print, ebook, PlayAways). The classification system uses this information to intelligently discover books that will be to your liking.

On a related note, want to know another great way to find a book that you will enjoy reading? Ask a librarian! As the risk of sounding condesending, I provide this tip, but I don't mean to be. Sometimes folks don't realize that our librarians are more than just desk-occupiers who know how to find things located in the library. They are super-skilled, well-read banks of knowledge; especially when it comes to identifying literature, research-related materials and hard-to-find answers to questions. Ask them! That's what they are here for!

If you wish to try the Custom Reading List service, go online or fill out a form in person. It is a wonderful tool and service that is free to you as a Library cardholder.
