Personal trainer liability

One of the most important aspects to personal training is protecting yourself from any liability issues. Personal training, while not the most dangerous job in the world, still poses its own problems. Clients injured, sexual harassment and client confidentiality are some examples of areas if not properly handled, could become a liability. It is important to take the appropriate steps necessary so if something does happen, you will be properly protected. One way to protect yourself is to purchase an insurance policy for fitness professionals, which can help protect you against any claims and/or lawsuits. In addition to insurance, there are similar and less expensive ways to protect yourself.

Things such as regularly inspecting equipment (which equipment malfunction is one of the most recorded complaints for clients), making sure you do not train/give advice outside of your scope of practice, or asking for permission to touch a client before doing so (to help avoid a possible sexual harassment case) are all simple ways to help protect yourself from claims of liability or fault.

Great post. As a yoga instructor, I carry my own coverage regardless of where I am holding my classes.
