Elaine Walker, Commissioner of Parks for Kentucky, has named Chris Perry the new park manager for Carter Caves State Resort Park.
Perry, 38 and a state parks employee for the last 18 years, was promoted to the position on Wednesday, February, 15, 2012, after having served as the park’s front desk supervisor. He has a degree from Morehead State University and also performs volunteer work with local schools.
“Chris brings a wealth of experience to the park manager’s position at Carter Caves,” Walker said. “He understands the important role the park plays in the community and how it supports tourism in the region.”
In 2011, Carter Caves was named Best Park of the Year by the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society and the Winter Adventure Weekend was named Best Program of the Year by the same organization.
Carter Caves is home to the Lewis Caveland Lodge constructed with native fieldstone. The lodge has 28 rooms each with a private balcony or patio overlooking the surrounding woodlands. Other facilities at the park include caves, cottages, campground, Tierney’s Cavern Restaurant with seating for 100, picnic areas, golf course, miniature golf, and a large outdoor pool.
Carter Caves State Resort Park is less than 150 from Metro Louisville and is located in east central Kentucky near Olive Hill on KY-182. From I-64, take exit #161 to US-60 east. Go approximately two miles and turn left onto KY-182 north.
