Just before tying the knot, and officially becoming the indie scene’s most adorable musical couple, the Bemis and Dupree announced that they’d begun focusing on a marital musical endeavor in the form of their side project, Perma.
After much quite a while with scarce, minor details scattered around the Internet, including a few demos, the duo have finally emerged to lay out the details of their forthcoming record. “Two of a Crime” will release on October 29th via Rory Records, Bemis’s sub-label with Equal Vision Records. The record hopes to encapsulate the unique songwriting styles and perspectives the individual members of the duo bring to the equation: Dupree’s suave dreaminess and Bemis’s blunt and rambunctious quirk.
If the first song released off the album, the namesake opener “Two of a Crime,” is any indication of the direction, then expect Perma to sound almost exactly how it was pitched. Fan’s familiar with the past teaming of the two on the track “Cemetary” (off Say Anything’s self-titled, 2009 release) will not be left wanting. The song kicks off with a cutesy, 40’s-style, barroom introduction complete with finger snaps and a light airiness that breathes an immediate tone of happiness and ease. It continues to fade into a dreamy barrage of the couple singing in unison in a way that makes it far to easy to visualize the pair skipping along a stone path in their Sunday’s best in an alt-indie rendition of Mary Poppins. The song is light-hearted and breezy throughout and it serves as the perfect introduction to the album as an announcement and as an opening track.

Say Anything’s Max Bemis and Eisley’s Sherri DuPree-Bemis will release the debut full-length album of their joint project, Perma, on October 29.
The album, Two of a Crime, will be released on Rory Records - Bemis’ imprint label within Equal Vision Records.
"The title track of the album is also debuting today, which features the signature sweet, dreamy sound of Eisley and the quirky, bold elements of Say Anything’s music – all with a charming romantic twist. The song can be heard HERE on SoundCloud.
"I love being in Say Anything, and I plan on continuing to do so for as long as I’m around. However, the history of that band is fraught with all kinds of ups and downs and demons and darkness. It’s part of what makes it special. Perma is a whole other kind of animal. How much more organic and fun for a start of a band can you get then just having it be a private joke between two people falling in love? Sherri and I literally started writing songs together for the singular purpose of wooing each other, and once we got the wooing done, it was to continue to expand upon our love for one another. That’s what Perma is, and it’s pure in that respect. As Say Anything progresses on its manic spectrum of darkness and light, I realized I absolutely NEEDED to have an outlet to express the part of me I never have to doubt, which is my love for Sherri,” shares Bemis. “Recording this record was literally like a sigh of relief. I’m so incredibly proud of this record.”
DuPree-Bemis adds, “We’re both hopeless romantics, so getting to just have free reign on that topic and being able to let loose and even sometimes get a little silly about it was so natural and very true to who we are as a couple. We have a lot of fun together but also have a very deeply passionate love and I think this album captures both sides of that story.”
Say Anything released their highly anticipated, three-disc collection of remastered B-sides and rarities: All My Friends Are Enemies: Early Rarities, earlier this year on January 22. Before there was …Is A Real Boy, In Defense of the Genre, Say Anything, and their latest full-length album - Anarchy, My Dear, there was Baseball, Menorah/Majora, andJunior Varsity. These early recordings were the start of Say Anything’s prolific, decade-plus long career, during which they’ve toured the world and sold nearly 500,000 albums. Eisley also recently released a new album, Currents, in May 2013. The beautiful full-length album was self-recorded and self-produced in their home studio in Tyler, TX - the band’s first time recording completely independently - and seesEisley’s signature tapestry of rich harmonies, delicately woven over the band’s most intricate instrumentations yet.
Say Anything and Eisley just recently wrapped up the massively successful Say Anything Rarities and More tour together, which featured an all Equal Vision Records artist line-up of Say Anything, Eisley,HRVRD, I the Mighty and Northern Faces.
Perma will head out on tour this winter, with details to be announced in the coming weeks. In the meantime, fans can catch Eisley and Say Anything at individual one-off shows this fall. On September 14, Eisley will perform at Dia de los Toadies Festival in Ft. Worth, TX and Say Anything will perform at Riot Fest in Chicago, IL on the same day.
