An area of low pressure developing over the eastern Tennessee River Valley will lift towards the New Jersey coastal waters by tonight leading to periods of rain, sleet, and snow throughout the region.
Variable clouds can be expected today as colder air slowly works into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will rise into the upper 30's to lower 40's over the interior and lower to mid 40's along the coast.
Tonight, moisture from the Southeast will rise up the coast and into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas after 7 PM. Along the coast and over the immediate Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas, a mixture of rain and snow can be expected with little if any accumulation expected. A trace of snow to at most an inch can be expected on cold surfaces like car tops and grass. Just north and west of the coast, temperatures will be slightly colder supporting snowfall accumulations of one to three inches with sleet accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch. Over northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, the Hudson River Valley, and Connecticut; snowfall accumulations of two to four inches can be expected with locally higher amounts possible in isolated snow bands. The bulk of the precipitation will fall between 10 PM tonight through 10 AM tomorrow. Winds will remain from the north and northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20's to lower 30's over the interior and lower to mid 30's along the coast.
Clearing skies can be expected by tomorrow afternoon with winds from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Scattered clouds can be expected Wednesday night on through Monday although a few snow showers and flurries will be a threat each day as cold air builds into the region. Temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday will range from the upper 30's to mid 40's for highs and upper 20's to mid 30's for lows. Temperatures for Friday on through Sunday will range from the mid 20's to lower 30's for lows and mid 30's to lower 40's for highs. On Monday, behind an Arctic cold front temperatures will fall into the upper 10's to lower 20's for lows and mid 20's to lower 30's for highs.
