Periods of rain and snow continue

An intense area of low pressure off the Mid Atlantic coast continues to impact the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas with rain, snow, and windy conditions.

An area of light snow continues to linger over Connecticut, Long Island, and coastal New Jersey this morning with accumulations of a trace to around 2 inches expected. The snow will mix with rain through this afternoon as temperatures rise into the upper 30′s to lower 40′s over the interior, lower to mid 40′s for the New York City metropolitan area, and mid to upper 40′s over the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Winds will be from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 40 mph at times.

A final disturbance will rotate through the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan areas this evening through tomorrow morning. The precipitation will mix with rain and snow but go over to snow as temperatures fall into the upper 20′s to lower 30′s. Snowfall accumulations around the Philadelphia metropolitan area and New Jersey coast will range only a trace to 2 inches at most. However, snowfall accumulations of 2 to as much as 6 inches of snow will be possible for northern New Jersey, southeastern New York, and Connecticut. Heavier snowfall totals will be possible over the central Hudson River Valley and northern Connecticut. Most locations can expect snowfall totals on the lower side of the snowfall potential.

Skies will start to clear by tomorrow afternoon with temperatures rising rapidly into the lower to mid 40′s over the interior and mid to upper 40′s over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.

High pressure will be in complete control Friday night through Monday with scattered cloud cover and very comfortable conditions expected. A strong cold front will follow on Tuesday with moderate to heavy rainfall expected. Cooler and drier conditions can be expected by Wednesday. Temperatures Friday evening through Tuesday will range from the lower to mid 30′s over the interior and mid to upper 30′s along the coast for lows. Meanwhile highs range from the lower to mid 50′s over the interior and mid 50′s to lower 60′s along the coast. Temperatures on Wednesday will range from the mid to upper 30′s for lows and upper 40′s to lower 50′s for highs.
