Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) are substances used to enhance athletic and physical abilities. All pro sports have banned PEDs from use in competition to limit an unfair advantage. Often times what gets left out of the PED conversation is the military's use to enhance combat performance. PEDs are often only associated with steroids but there are many non-steroid PEDs. For example blood boosters ( EPO), diuretics (masking drug), and testosterone. Even pain killers are PEDs but not OTC pain killers but prescription pills such as hydrocodone and oxycodone are considered PEDs because they can lower the pain threshold of an athlete. There are deadly consequences if PEDs are abused. Most often than not there are some negative effects from taking PEDs. It could be as small as tachycardia to heart failure.
