Excellent weather will be in place to kick off the Labor Day weekend with clear skies, low humidity, and temperatures in the 70's and 80's. In fact, the weather will be so nice that some people may have started the long weekend a bit early. However, the excellent weather won't last long as a tropical air mass will invade New Jersey by Sunday morning.
This afternoon through Saturday, Canadian high pressure will be in complete control with clear skies to scattered cloud cover expected. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph through Saturday morning, veering to the northeast by Saturday night. As a result, dew points will be in the 40's and 50's leading to very low humidity and comfortable conditions. Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the upper 70's to lower 80's over much of New Jersey this afternoon. Tonight, temperatures will fall into the upper 40's to lower 50's over northwesterly New Jersey and lower to mid 50's throughout the rest of the state. Tomorrow, temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 70's over northern and eastern New Jersey and upper 70's to lower 80's over southwestern New Jersey for highs. Low temperatures on Saturday will range from the upper 40's to lower 50's over northwestern New jersey and mid to upper 50's over the rest of the state. High temperatures by Saturday will rebound into the mid to upper 70's over northern and central New Jersey and upper 70's to lower 80's over southern New Jersey.
By Sunday morning, an area of low pressure currently over the southern Plains will approach New Jersey with a warm front moving through the state. As winds veer to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph, humidity will significantly increase. There will be increasing clouds with a threat for widely scattered showers and thunderstorms by the late afternoon and evening. Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's for lows and mid to upper 80's for highs.
On Monday, Labor Day, the cold front will move through with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 40 mph, heavy downpours, hail, and frequent lightning. Low temperatures will range from the mid 60's over northwestern New Jersey and upper 60's to lower 70's over the rest of New Jersey. High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 80's over northwestern New Jersey and upper 80's to lower 90's over the rest of the state.
High pressure will be in control by Tuesday and Wednesday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover expected. Temperatures will remain near to above normal but with lower humidity expected. On Tuesday temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's for lows and upper 80's to lower 90's for highs. On Wednesday, temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows and lower to mid 80's for highs.
